About Me

Hello and welcome!

All you can eat blog about page picture of Justin Day

Here I am with a pair of native chickens (manok bisaya) destined for the dinner table in Quezon City, Philippines.

All You Can Eat is a food blog full of exciting recipes and stories from the Tropics.

Hi, my name is Justin and thanks for visiting my blog.

I’m a writer who loves sharing recipes and stories about food from my part of the world – Australia’s Wet Tropics.

Through All You Can Eat I plan to take you on a culinary adventure through this exciting region – and at times beyond – to discover everything edible.

There are so many exciting foods here: from exotic fruits and world-class seafood to boutique producers and outstanding restaurants.

If it’s food-related, I want to share it with you.

I guarantee we’re in for a treat!

Why I created this blog

I’m a 42-year-old bloke who grew up in the small town of Innisfail in Far North Queensland, Australia.

It’s an amazing place, known worldwide for its world-heritage rainforests, golden beaches, laid-back lifestyle, and of course, the Great Barrier Reef.

The modern, vibrant City of Cairns is the gateway to this region, with an international airport and thriving tourism industry, and is just over an hour’s drive from my door.

I’ve always had a passion for writing, food and photography.

I created All You Can Eat as a way of sharing these loves with you.

I’m not fussy about where my food comes from, as long as it tastes good.

Whether it’s a tried-and-tested recipe from an amazing home cook, fresh produce from a backyard vegetable patch, an exciting dish from an inspiring chef or something I have caught or foraged for myself, you will read about it here.

I hope you enjoy the amazing ingredients, recipes, cafes, restaurants, producers, events and locations my adventures uncover.

I’m up to try just about anything once, as I’m sure you will find out!

At times some of the food I eat might be a little out there.

There may even be times when you find it confronting.

I assure you though, it’s not a stunt.

Food fascinates me.

To start you off, here are 5 posts I recommend that showcase what this blog is all about.

  1. Foray into fungi
  2. Homemade basil pesto
  3. 5 easy ways to use up excess lemons
  4. Pecan nuts
  5. Passionfruit Mousse

Let me know if you enjoy what I have to offer, or make suggestions if you think there is something I could do better.

Feel free to comment below or connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email.

I’m always happy to chat and will get back to you as quickly as I can.

I hope you enjoy All You Can Eat!
